Who Can Do This
This NVQ is for site carpenters who carry out first and second fix work on new-build and refurbishment projects. It suits anyone hanging doors, fitting floors, building stud walls or installing roofs and stairs on site who wants a qualification that proves their skill.
Course Structure, Duration & Assessment
The qualification is made up of mandatory units on health, safety and welfare, working relationships and productive working practices, plus optional units built around site carpentry. Your assessor helps you choose the units that match the work you actually do on site.
There are no written exams. Your assessor reviews photos, method statements and witness testimonies from your supervisor, and may visit site or hold a professional discussion with you. How long it takes depends on your experience and how quickly you can gather evidence.

What You Will Learn
You show how you set out and install timber frames, joists, floors and stud partitions, hang doors and fit ironmongery, and fix skirting, architraves and other second fix items. Assessors check your accuracy, use of hand and power tools, timber selection and safe working on site.
Career Progression After Level 2
Completing the NVQ supports your application for the Blue Skilled Worker CSCS Card. Carpenters often move into supervisory roles, specialise in bespoke joinery or shopfitting, or progress to NVQ Level 3 qualifications in site carpentry or supervision.
