What is the CSCS Gold Supervisors Card?
The CSCS Gold Supervisors Card is for people who look after other workers on site. Foremen, gangers, charge hands and section supervisors all come under it. To get one you need a supervisory or technical NVQ at Level 3 or 4, most often the NVQ Level 3 in Occupational Work Supervision, plus a pass in the CITB Supervisors test. It isn’t the same as the gold Skilled Worker card, even though the colour matches. That one proves advanced trade skill. This one proves you can supervise. The card lasts 5 years and can be renewed.
Who Can Apply for the CSCS Gold Supervisors Card?
If part of your job is telling other people what to do and checking they’ve done it safely, this card was made for you. We mostly help:
- Site supervisors, foremen and gangers with a supervisory NVQ Level 3 or 4
- Skilled workers who have stepped up to run a team and completed a supervision NVQ
- Trade supervisors in areas such as bricklaying, drylining or groundworks
- Holders of an old Industry Accreditation supervisor card who now need an NVQ to replace it

Eligibility Requirements
CSCS checks your NVQ, your test and your identity. The test is where people trip up, because it has to be the Supervisors version and not the Operatives one. You’ll need:
- A construction-related supervisory or technical NVQ or SVQ at Level 3 or 4
- A pass in the CITB HS&E test for Supervisors, taken within the last 2 years
- Your qualification certificate, showing the same name as your ID
- Photo ID and a passport-style photo that match the details on your application

How to Apply for the CSCS Gold Supervisors Card
If you already hold the NVQ, this is mostly paperwork. If you don’t, start there. It’s assessed on site while you work. Either way, book a CITB test at Supervisors level if your last pass is more than two years old.
- Complete a supervisory NVQ Level 3 or 4, or have your certificate to hand.
- Book and pass the CITB HS&E test for Supervisors.
- Get your documents together: photo ID, NVQ certificate and test pass.
- Apply online through CSCS, or send us your details and we'll submit the application for you.
- Pay the card fee. Your digital card usually shows up before the plastic one.

Renewal and Validity
Yes. The CSCS Gold Supervisors Card lasts 5 years and you can renew it each time. Your NVQ doesn’t expire, so you won’t repeat it. You will need a fresh pass in the CITB Supervisors test, taken within the 2 years before you renew. You can apply from 6 months before the expiry date and up to 6 months after it. One thing to know: supervisor cards issued under Industry Accreditation expired at the end of 2024 and can’t be renewed, so those holders need an NVQ first. If you’ve moved into management since your last card, look at the Black Managers Card instead.

How Long Does It Take to Receive the CSCS Gold Supervisors Card?
Once your application is approved, the CSCS Gold Supervisors Card normally arrives in 7 to 10 working days. You won’t be stuck waiting on the post. The digital version usually appears in the My CSCS app sooner, so you have something to show on site in the meantime.
When a card is late, it’s nearly always for one of three reasons: the test was taken at the wrong level or the result hasn’t reached CSCS yet, the NVQ certificate can’t be verified, or the name on your ID doesn’t match the application. We check all three before anything is submitted.
