What is the CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card?
The CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card, or PQP card, is the white card for construction professionals. It isn’t tied to an NVQ or a degree. It’s tied to your membership of a professional body that CSCS has approved, at a grade CSCS accepts. Chartered surveyors, civil and structural engineers, architects and chartered builders are typical holders, through bodies such as RICS, ICE, IStructE, RIBA and CIOB. The card lasts 5 years, and you need a pass in the CITB Managers and Professionals test to get it.
Who Can Apply for the CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card?
If you hold a current membership with a recognised body and your work takes you on to site, this is your card. We mostly hear from:
- Chartered and incorporated members of bodies such as RICS, ICE, IStructE, RIBA and CIOB
- Engineers, surveyors and architects who make regular site visits
- Consultants and project managers whose clients ask for a CSCS card
- AQP card holders who have since gained professional membership

Eligibility Requirements
CSCS looks at two things above all: that your membership is current, and that it’s at an accepted grade. Student and affiliate grades often don’t count. Have these ready:
- Current membership of a CSCS-approved professional body, at an accepted membership level
- Proof of this year's membership: a certificate, membership card, payment receipt or letter from the body
- A pass in the CITB Managers and Professionals (MAP) test, or the CIC Health and Safety test, within the last 2 years
- Photo ID and a passport-style photo that match the details on your application

How to Apply for the CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card
This is one of the quicker CSCS applications, because there’s no qualification to assess. If your MAP test pass is more than two years old, book a CITB test before anything else.
- Check your professional body and membership grade are on the CSCS approved list. We can do this for you.
- Book and pass the CITB Managers and Professionals (MAP) test.
- Get your documents together: photo ID and proof of this year's membership.
- Apply online through CSCS, or send us your details and we'll submit the application for you.
- Pay the card fee. Your digital card usually shows up before the plastic one.

Renewal and Validity
Not in the usual sense. The CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card lasts 5 years, and when it expires CSCS asks for a brand new application in place of a renewal. In practice that means showing your membership is still current and passing the MAP test again within the 2 years before you apply. Keep your annual subscription paid in the meantime. The card depends on live membership, so a lapsed subscription can leave you without the evidence you need when the five years are up.

How Long Does It Take to Receive the CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card?
Once your application is approved, the CSCS Professionally Qualified Person Card normally arrives in 7 to 10 working days. The digital version usually reaches the My CSCS app first, which is handy if you have a site visit booked before the plastic card turns up.
When a card is late, it’s nearly always for one of three reasons: the test result hasn’t reached CSCS yet, the membership proof is out of date or shows a grade CSCS doesn’t accept, or the name on your ID doesn’t match the application. We check all three before anything is submitted.
