The CPCS A61 Appointed Person Course is designed to train individuals who are responsible for planning and supervising lifting operations on construction sites. The appointed person plays a critical role in ensuring that lifting activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry regulations. This course combines theoretical learning with practical exercises, covering risk assessment, lift planning, and communication skills. Eligibility of Course

To enroll in the CPCS A61 Appointed Person Course, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Have basic literacy and numeracy skills to follow instructions and safety guidelines.

  • Hold a valid CITB Health, Safety & Environment (HS&E) test certificate taken within the last two years.

  • Prior experience in lifting operations or site supervision is highly recommended, as the course is more advanced than operator-level training.

Course Details

  • Duration: Typically 5–7 days, depending on prior experience.

  • Content Includes:

    • Legal responsibilities and industry regulations for lifting operations.

    • Risk assessment and method statement preparation.

    • Planning lifting operations, including equipment selection and load management.

    • Effective communication and coordination with crane operators, slingers, and site staff.

    • Emergency procedures and safety awareness.

  • Assessment: Candidates must pass a CPCS theory test and a practical assessment, which includes preparing and presenting a lift plan.

  • Certification: Successful participants receive the CPCS Red Trained Operator Card for the A61 category. This can later be upgraded to the Blue Competent Operator Card by completing an NVQ in lifting operations management.
