Who Can Do This
This NVQ is for drylining finishers and tapers who prepare boarded walls and ceilings for decoration. It suits people already taping, jointing and finishing plasterboard on site who want proof that their finish meets professional standards.
Course Structure, Duration & Assessment
The qualification is made up of mandatory units on health, safety and welfare, working relationships and productive working practices, plus optional units built around drylining finishing. Your assessor helps you choose the units that match the work you actually do on site.
There are no written exams. Your assessor reviews photos, method statements and witness testimonies from your supervisor, and may visit site or hold a professional discussion with you. How long it takes depends on your experience and how quickly you can gather evidence.

You show how you prepare boards, apply tape and jointing compound by hand or machine, fill fixings and angles, sand and spot finish, and produce smooth surfaces ready for paint. Assessors also look at material mixing, beads and trims, dust control and protecting surrounding work.
Career Progression After Level 2
Completing the NVQ lets you apply for the Blue Skilled Worker CSCS Card and take on larger finishing packages. Finishers often move into supervisory roles, add boarding or fixing skills, or progress to NVQ Level 3 interior systems qualifications.
