Who Can Do This
This NVQ is for ceiling fixers and interior systems operatives who install suspended and specialist ceilings in commercial, residential and public buildings. It suits people who already work on site and want their experience recognised, as well as those who have moved into ceilings from drylining or general fit-out.
Course Structure, Duration & Assessment
The qualification is made up of mandatory units on health, safety and welfare, working relationships and productive working practices, plus optional units built around suspended ceiling installation. Your assessor helps you choose the units that match the work you actually do on site.
There are no written exams. Your assessor reviews photos, method statements and witness testimonies from your supervisor, and may visit site or hold a professional discussion with you. How long it takes depends on your experience and how quickly you can gather evidence.

What You Will Learn
You demonstrate setting out ceiling levels, fixing perimeter trims and hangers, installing main runners, cross tees and grid systems, and cutting and fitting tiles around lights, vents and sprinkler heads. Safe use of access equipment, accurate levelling and protecting finished work are all part of the assessment.
Career Progression After Level 2
The qualification supports your application for the Blue Skilled Worker CSCS Card, which most main contractors expect. From there you can lead ceiling teams, broaden into partitions and drylining, or progress to NVQ Level 3 if you want to move into supervision.
