Who Can Do This
This NVQ is aimed at dryliners and boarders who fix plasterboard to metal or timber frames, walls and ceilings. It suits people already working on new-build or refurbishment sites who can show they board out rooms accurately and safely, whatever their age or background.
Course Structure, Duration & Assessment
The qualification is made up of mandatory units on health, safety and welfare, working relationships and productive working practices, plus optional units built around drylining boarding. Your assessor helps you choose the units that match the work you actually do on site.
There are no written exams. Your assessor reviews photos, method statements and witness testimonies from your supervisor, and may visit site or hold a professional discussion with you. How long it takes depends on your experience and how quickly you can gather evidence.

What You Will Learn
You show how you measure, cut and fix plasterboard to studs, ceilings and walls, form openings, fit boards around services and stagger joints correctly. Assessors also look at fixing centres, working at height, handling heavy boards safely and keeping your work area tidy for the tapers and finishers who follow.
Career Progression After Level 2
Completing the NVQ lets you apply for the Blue Skilled Worker CSCS Card and gives you a stronger case for better-paid boarding work. Many boarders add fixing or finishing skills, run their own gangs or progress to NVQ Level 3 interior systems supervision.
